The photo below shows a tombstone from Salisbury Cathedral, which shows clearly that the new year didn't always start on the 1^st of January. It tells about a boy who was born on the 13^th of May 1683 and died on the 19^th of February in the same year! In 1683, in England, new year's day was the 25^th of March.
